Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a real good recording of Cryptical Envelopment and The Other One. Are there any here at Archive.org that people will recommend? I like the sound of this song, I just havn't heard any with a good sound mix, usually the vocals are too low.

Thanks in advance.

There are a number of great Other Ones from late '71 and '72....which I don't have time to get into....BUT I'd like to point out some of my faves from 1970:

The best is Harpur 5-2-70, which you should already have.

Another wonderful one from an incredible show is:

Another great, unusual one is:

That Cryptical Reprise from 6-7-70 has interesting vocals that I can't quite make out...

the other show 4-15 also seemed quite good, just listening to TOO...

I still can never figure out why people think they weren't that good -- someone just told me this a few months ago!

I was just playing the one from Two From The Vault.

Is that supposed to be one of the great ones?

I think the Cyptical is really catchy from that.

And there's a cool echo on one line Garcia sings during the Eleven.

But, I'll check out the 1970-06-07 link now.

I'm entitled after all, I paid good money to see that show when I was 17....

it was a verrry good year...

Did you listen to the whole LA run? I liked it, along with many in '68.

I also like the extended Other Ones from '73 and '72, esp 72 late spring and early fall. Hundred Year Hall disc 2 was quite good.

Well, for an energetic guitar solo during the OOne, you cannot avoid 12-29-68; right here in living splendor.

For good vocals, and an overall nice mix, you should check out Two from the Vault (Aug, 68) and then the Avalon shows, and I would suggest 10-12-68 as the easy one to pick given its mix. Finally, most every complete show from Aug 68 to May 69 has this second suite, so though you are right that many do have the vocals "down in the mix" if listen to a number of them and you will find one that suits you...

October 22, 1971 Chicago and October 26, 1971 Syracuse are very good also.

Actually much of '68 is great: 2-14 (great Spanish Jam too), and many in Aug, Sept, and my favorite month October (10-13 too). In '68 you get TOO and Dark Star.

...and I've been listening to 9-28-72 a lot lately.

While the '85 Crypticals were a nice novelty, and certainly it was awesome to witness them, IMO none of them really came close to the energy of the early versions.
